This weekend was really busy in Moab. Friday night we were not able to find an open campsite so we parked in town. Our spot was on a quiet dead end road that was right on the town’s walking trails. We all slept well and cruised around town in the morning.
After breakfast at Moon Flower we headed out to go mountain biking in Dead Horse State Park. The park is just in between Arches NP and Canyon Lands NP on the west side of town. The trails for biking were super fun. Our whole family had a great time riding to the visitor center with a insane view of the canyons below.
The rangers asked us to park next to the Yurt campground which gave us plenty of space with the Airstream. After the ride we warmed up with Lunch and some chess. We checked around the local campgrounds for spots without any luck. Thankfully we found a great spot in the BLM lands on the way back to Moab.
Our spot had amazing views overlooking the valley. After setting up our solar panels we baked some bread and had dinner. The sunset was beautiful over the desert landscape as the temperature began to fall.
The stars came out as Lara and the kids read stories. Ginger and I spent some time capturing the Milky Way over the Airstream. I looked down at my watch and saw that the temperature was already 31 degrees.
In the morning we watched our battery gauge steadily climb from red to orange and then finally green as the sun got higher in the sky. Solar still amazes me how efficient and effortless energy can be. Being off the grid is a great feeling.
We headed back to Moab for a few days of work. Skye set out to earn her junior ranger badge and I got out to see some of the arches. It was a nice couple of days to get settled.
