I have been dreaming of having a 4×4 van for a long time. It’s happening!
This is our new Ford diesel tow rig. The diesel one ton option was special order only and is really hard to find. We were lucky to find this 2007 in perfect shape with only 97k miles on it in Oregon yesterday. It will be going in for the 4×4 conversion next month when we pass back through Salem, OR.
Here is our inspiration and hopefully what our van will evolve in to!
Looking good!
My first van trip was to Los Barriles on the tip of Baja when I was a junior in high school. I made the trip in my Baby blue Ford E-150 econoline van. It was an amazing adventure and I am so lucky that my Mom and Dad trusted me enough to let me go. Ever since those days the van has been the perfect adventure rig to me.
The shop we bought the van from was like meeting a new group of friends. Ginger our pup was in the middle of the office wrestling with their red healer pup. The kids were hanging out on the couch with Shadow a older lab and her owner talking up a storm. When I signed the paper work for the van I mentioned that it would be my dream car if it was four wheel drive. Scott who I think is one of the owners said no problem bring back when you have three days to spare. I have a perfect front end from a Super Duty truck that I can swap in there. Crazy how some things just work out.
For our trip with the airstream this is the perfect tow rig. It has more than enough power to go over any mountain pass that we need to cross. At camp I will be able to use the van for work calls or just a quiet place away from the kids. Lara and he kids will also be able to have a extra place to study and adventure while I am at work in the trailer. With the airstream parked we will be able to head out in to BLM lands for adventure deep in to new off road places.
More to come!
